Irma Vasari
Irma Vasari, 92, of Downers Grove, passed away Thursday, July 16, 2026. Irma was the loving and cherished wife to the late Armido Vasari for 68 years before his passing in November 2025. She was the devoted mother of Louisa (Bill) Sassi, Laura (Steve) Reitsma, and Doriana Vasari. She was a proud and adored Nonna to Cristina (Jay) Prince, Frank (Michelle) Sassi, Joe Reitsma, Gina Reitsma, and Francesca Contento, and a cherished great-grandmother “Nonna Irma” to Maddox Prince and Harleigh Prince.
Born in Italy, Irma came to America in 1957 after marrying Armido, where together they began their life. She was a talented cook, making homemade meals from scratch for her family and beyond. You never left her home empty-handed and would often find her knocking on your door with a plate of something delicious. She was also a seamstress, having worked for Marshall Field’s and Nieman Marcus for many years, and was often seen sitting at her old Singer sewing machine creating beautiful handmade outfits or mending something for someone. Another hobby/pastime was crocheting. She made many doilies these past few years, and everyone that knew her has at least one.
Irma was treasured and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She will always be remembered for the love and devotion given unconditionally, family traditions, and a lifetime of care and generosity.
