Rose Woods

Rose Woods was born November 4, 1956 in Chicago, IL to Simon P. Castro and Mary Ellen Ortiz. Rose’s hobbies were cooking and gardening. She loved watching the Chicago Bulls, Bears, Blackhawks and Cubs and cheering for them. She enjoyed attending the victory parades when those teams won the championship.

Rose was also an advocate against gun violencein the late 1990’s. She was part of the Million Mom March that was held on the lakefront, in Chicago, on Mother’s Day 2000. it was a grass roots gun control protest. After that she was employed by the Bell campaign which was the same type of grassroots organization. She was also invited to the White House ans Columbine after the mass shooting that took place in April 1999 at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado.

She married Mario Woods in 1989, sharing 37 beautiful years together. She was a devoted wife and loving mother to sons Eeahray, Joseph, Mario and Jonathan and daughter, Anna. She was preceded in death by Nicholas and William. She also had 13 grandchildren.
