Prisco I. Olaya Jr.
Dr. Prisco I. Olaya, Jr., 78, peacefully passed away at his home in Downers Grove, Illinois on Wednesday, November 7. Rosalie, his loving and devoted wife of 46 years, was by his side, along with his daughters: Jennifer, Nicole (Lester), and Samantha. A son, Phillip (Johanna), also survives him. Dr. Olaya treated countless patients during his four decades as an internist, including generations of families who entrusted him with their care, reflecting the confidence they had in his professional abilities. A graduate of the University of the East Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center College of Medicine in the Philippines, he arrived in the United States forty-nine years ago for a residency program at Illinois Masonic Medical Center. In addition to a busy medical practice, Dr. Olaya remained engaged in his communities and was President of the Philippine Medical Association in Chicago as well as President of the Medical Staff at St. Anthony Hospital, also in Chicago. An avid reader, Dr. Olaya also enjoyed listening to a wide musical repertoire, which ranged from classical to Elvis Presley and Bruno Mars. He also enjoyed attending the opera. Despite health challenges in his final years, he faced each day with dignity and persevered to witness the weddings of two of his children and the recent birth of his granddaughter, Jane Frances Olaya. Ever civic-minded and politically engaged, Dr. Olaya cast an absentee vote and listened attentively to the recent election returns. Dr. Olaya loved his family unconditionally and was the consummate professional. Both reciprocated to provide him with a fulfilling life. Prisco,
I remember you as a very considerate classmate, always friendly with classmates. I still remember your company with our bus trips to Quirino Hospital. I enjoyed your company and shared a lot of jokes together during our bus trips (good and bad ones)
Our (Tess and I) deepest Condolences to your Family. May you Rest In Peace.
I certainly will miss the very kind of friendship you’ve shown me during our class years at UERM Medical School Class ’68.
