Maryellen Becker
Maryellen Becker (nee Wood), age 79, of Westmont passed away peacefully after a long illness at home on December 2, 2019.
She was born June 5, 1940, in Chicago to the late Eleanor (nee Tierney) and Sydney Wood.
Preceded in death by her sisters, Margaret Smith and Loretta Mikula, and brother, Edward Wood.
Beloved wife of 49 years to Dale Becker; cherished mother of Karen (Michael) Byron and Michael (Danielle) Becker; devoted grandmother of Veronica, Sydney, Kyle, Theodore and Hailey, and fond aunt of many nieces and nephews.
Maryellen was formerly employed at City National Bank, Continental Bank, and Home Federal Savings and Loan. She was very involved with Holy Trinity Parish in Westmont, including co-founding the school’s Mothers’ Association, as well as working in the Early Childhood Program for 18 years. She was also very active in Council of Catholic Women (CCW), of which she was named CCW Woman of the Year, and served on the Administrative Commission of the Parish Council.
Maryellen was a die-hard fan of the White Sox, but loved most professional and college sports, especially basketball, hockey, and golf.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Maryellen’s devoted caregiver, Liz Puraleski, dear friend Betty Calderone, and the dedicated staff of VITAS Healthcare. Visitation will be held at the West Suburban Funeral Home, 39 N. Cass Ave., Westmont, IL 60559 on Thursday, December 5, from to 3 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Funeral services will begin Friday, December 6, at 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home and continue to Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 111 S.
