My sister Judy went to heaven to walk in the sunshine with her warm-hearted husband Bob Gillis and our loving parents. She was a strong feminist and naturalist before it was cool and loved an artist who grew sprouts for a living. Together they spent many years in Olympia, Washington playing tennis, gardening and hiking. Judy was a RN, MN and was a public servant, first as a public health nurse in Ithaca, NY and then leading the pregnancy prevention efforts in Washington State.
She was easily one of Bruce Springsteen’s most admiring fans, so I’ll share his lyrics in her memory.
One, two, three, four
The highway’s jammed with broken heroes on a last chance power drive
Everybody’s out on the run tonight
But there’s no place left to hide
Together Wendy we can live with the sadness
I’ll love you with all the madness in my soul
H-Oh, Someday girl I don’t know when
We’re gonna get to that place
Where we really wanna go
And we’ll walk in the sun
But till then tramps like us
Baby we were born to run
Oh honey, tramps like us
Baby we were born to run
Come on with me, tramps like us
Baby we were born to run
