Joseph C. Hantsch

September 26, 2023

Joseph C. Hantsch, age 90, at rest September 21, 2023, after a valiant fight against cancer. Beloved husband of 56 years to the late Janet (née Peternel); loving father of Mary (the late Vladimir) Mikhailov, Theresa (Konstantin) Mikhailov, JJ, Patty Hantsch, Christina (Brian) Bardsley, Laura (Brett) Oliver, and Michael (Jennifer); fun-loving grandpa of Katerina, Alexander, Nicholas, Brian, Jack, Isabella, Briana, Lillian, Chester, and Mae; devoted son of the late Chester and Luella; dear older brother of the late Patricia (the late Ron) Nordgren, John (Charmaine), Jean Hantsch, Pam (Casey) Sakamoto; uncle to many and friend to all. Joe was a graduate of Fenwick High School and Loyola University Chicago and proudly served his country for 2 years in the U.S. Army with fond memories of his medic training and his time at Ft. Meade working on “new” IBM computers. After earning his CPA, Joe spent his professional career at a variety of companies, always committed to doing the right thing. He eventually retired from the DuPage County Clerk of the Circuit Court’s office after serving as Chief Accountant and Internal Auditor. Joe and Janet were long-time parishioners of St. Joan of Arc Church where they were fixtures at the Saturday evening mass with Joe serving as Chief Usher and Janet often serving in the Resource Center. Joe was also very active in the SJA Knights of Columbus Council, for years running the annual Tootsie Roll Drive. Over the years, Joe served his community in many different capacities with some of his proudest roles being Granada Little League President (in Phoenix, AZ), Loyola University Phonathon Volunteer, Precinct Captain for the DuPage County Republican Party, and member of the Lisle-Woodridge Fire District Board of Commissioners. Joe will always be remembered for his commitment to his family and faith, ability to talk to anyone about pretty much anything, his wild ideas, and teaching his children and grandchildren the family game of double-deck, six-handed pinochle. He will be missed dearly by all who called him dad, grandpa, brother, or uncle but will be remembered fondly by all for the love and compassion he showed everyone and for the advice he always had to offer. Visitation will be held Friday, September 29, 2023, at Blake-Lamb Funeral Home, 5015 S. Lincoln (Rt. 53 & Short St.) in Lisle from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. On Saturday, September 30, 2023, visitation will be at 10 a.m. at St. Joan of Arc Church, 820 Division St. in Lisle followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Interment will be held privately.
