John S. Konezney Jr.

April 15, 2026

John S. Konezney Jr., 92, of Downers Grove, IL, passed away peacefully at home on April 14, 2026, surrounded by the care and love of his family. He was the beloved son of the late Blanche (née Fiala) and John S. Konezney Sr., and a caring brother to the late Charles and Judy Konezney. John was a devoted husband to his late wife, Donna J. (née Shimek), and a proud father to his sons, John S. Konezney III (Karen) and Robert (Tracy). He was a deeply loved grandfather to Katelyn, Ryan, and Zachary—roles he carried with pride, humor, and a steady presence that will never be forgotten.

John was a proud veteran of the Korean War, he served in the United States Army with honor. Following his service, he built a remarkable 46-year career as a sheet metal worker and was a dedicated member of Sheet Metal Workers Local 73. He was also a lifelong member of the Loyal Order of the Moose and served as president of the Rod & Gun Club.

But beyond his accomplishments, John will be remembered most for the life he brought into every room. He was a natural storyteller, quick with a joke, and often the center of every gathering. Whether it was a summer pool party that stretched a little longer than it should have, or a simple night spent with family. If he was there, it was always a good time.

John loved the traditions that brought people together. Friday nights meant league night with his sons in earlier years, and his regular Tuesday golf outings with close friends, which he rarely, if ever, missed. Those days weren’t just about the game, they were about camaraderie, laughter, and the kind of friendships that last a lifetime.

John also had a special place in his heart for animals. Any pet that came through the door was welcomed without hesitation—even the strays. His beloved cat, Bandit, was a constant companion and remained faithfully by his side. In his final days, John showed the same strength and independence that defined his life.

John returned home from the hospital to spend his time on his own terms—peacefully, comfortably, and with Bandit right beside him. It was a quiet, beautiful ending to a life lived fully. He leaves behind a legacy of loyalty, humor, resilience, and love. He will be deeply missed, forever remembered, and always carried in the hearts of those who knew him.
