Jeneil Hupfer

Jeneil (Hicks) Hupfer, age 70 of Westmont, IL, passed away peacefully on June 27, 2023 succumbing to the effects of Alzheimer’s Disease. She was born to Jene and Pearl Hicks on July 26, 1952 in Covington, IN, and is the loving wife of Darrell Hupfer of 50 years, cherished mother of Derek (Jennifer) Hupfer, Jeff (Aimee) Hupfer, and Leeann (Charlie) Monte Verde, and devoted grandma to Katelyn, Payton, and Jacob Hupfer. She is also beloved “Sissy” to her four brothers, Curt (Lynn) Hicks, Dan (Nyanne) Hicks, David (Vickie) Hicks, and Steve (Shirley) Hicks. She is preceded in death by her parents, in-laws Lloyd and Dolores Hupfer, and nephew Andrew Hupfer. Jeneil grew up on a farm in Covington, IN where she took after her mother to become an exceptional cook, baker, and seamstress. Throughout her childhood, she participated in the Vermillion County 4-H program, raising and showing livestock and exhibiting her homemaking skills. Doing what she knew best, she majored in home economics at Purdue University where she met her lifelong love, Darrell in 1970. They married in August of 1973, graduated, and moved to the Chicagoland area where they raised their three children and were active members of the community. She was a member of Hinsdale Junior Women’s club, a cub scout den mother for her sons, and sang in the Holy Trinity choir. She was a baker at Hinsdale South High School for over 20 years, and as a dedicated spectator at all of their childrens’ sports and activities, she always made sure her kids’ teams were properly fed after games with her famous snickerdoodles, coconut macaroons, and jackpot drops. Living away from her family in Indiana, she especially cherished times visiting her brothers and in-laws. You could expect to see Jeneil on the dance floor at family weddings, winning backyard cornhole games, and taking weekend trips with her girlfriends. Jeneil will be remembered as kind and loving with a bright smile and a fun spirit whose impact will be forever felt by her family and friends who love her dearly.

Visitation will be held at Cappetta’s West Suburban Funeral Home at 4920 Main Street in Downers Grove, IL on Wednesday, July 5 from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM. A funeral service will be held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church at 111 S. Cass Ave in Westmont, IL, on Thursday, July 6 at 9:30 AM. A second visitation will be held at Sunset Funeral Home at 420 3rd St. in Covington, IN on Friday, July 7 from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM with  a memorial service starting at 1:00 PM. A private burial service at Hicks Cemetery in Perrysville, IN will follow.
