George Thomas Novak

George T. Novak of Downers Grove passed away suddenly on Wednesday, August 28th, 2024. George is survived by his loving wife, of 52 years, Arlene (nee Dakuras). Devoted father to Jennifer (Eric DeSimone), Christopher (Caryn), and the beloved grandfather to Christian DeSimone, Jordan DeSimone, Catelyn Novak, Noah Novak, Jessica DeSimone, Nathan DeSimone, and Christopher Novak, Jr. George was the fond brother to James (Carol) Novak, Carol (Ricky Tucker), and sister-in-law Carol Lee & countless nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles.

George served his country by enlisting in the army at age 18. He served as a Specialist in the United State army and was stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War. George loved playing his guitar and was even in a successful band during his younger years, loved fishing, gardening, and anything outdoors. He was a hard worker making a living as a carpenter for 30+ years before retiring. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather enjoying time spent with family playing various games like Pinocle, Uno, Pit, Aggravation, football, and kickball. He also enjoyed “Donut Sundays” with his grandkids who affectionately called him “Papa”. George made sure to attend any sports games, choir concerts, dance competitions, track meets, college tailgating events or any event that his grandkids were involved in.  He was always known as one of the loudest spectators and he could get the crowd cheering right along with him! George was an amazing man who was loved by so many and will forever be deeply missed.

Visitation services will be held on Friday, September 6th, 2024, at Cappetta’s West Suburban Funeral Home, 4920 Main Street, Downers Grove, IL 60515, from 4:00pm to 8:00pm with Chapel Services to commence at 7:00pm.
