Barbara Ann Mitman, 63, longtime resident of Downers Grove, at rest May 4, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Beloved wife of R. Scott; loving mother of Sarah, Anna Claire and Scott Mitman; devoted daughter of Frank (the late Donna) Brucato; dearest sister of Steve and Betty Brucato; dear daughter-in-law of Maureen (the late William) Mitman; fond godmother to her niece Angelina.
Barb’s life philosophy was always “glass half full”. With her infectious smile and unwavering positivity she could make friends wherever she went. During her battle with brain cancer in her 20s, she defied every statistic, crediting her recovery to her faith, prayer and the hope that they nourished. Her hobbies centered around crafts, puzzles and any and all things cat related. But her passion was creating and gifting beautiful handmade Christmas ornaments every year. However for Barb, nothing compared to family and to being a mom. She loved board games, playing cards, family movie nights and supporting her kids at every event – typically in her iconic sweater, white turtleneck and fanny pack, When more health challenges arose later in life she faced them with grace, courage and a smile. As these challenges persisted, her outlook rarely waivered. With the many people her life has touched, Barb’s influence and spirit are sure to live on.
Visitation Wednesday, May 13, 2026 from 4-8 P.M. at Cappetta’s West Suburban Funeral Home 4920 Main St., Downers Grove.
