John “Jack” Counter, 88, longtime resident of Homer Township now Homer Glen, at rest December 20, 2025. Beloved husband of Charlene “Char” nee Weck; loving father of Debra, Mark (Cynthia) and Steven (Debbie) Counter; devoted grandfather of Brian (Rosa), Tracy and Michael Counter, Kristine (Ethan) Wilson, Rebecca (Richard) Paynter and Kyle (Megan) Counter; dearest great grandfather of Abigail, Delta, Lillian and Charlotte; fond uncle of many nieces and nephews Preceded in death by his parents John F. and Anastasia (nee Tadyshak) Counter and two sisters, Rose Nelson and Connie Shourek.
Jack built his own home in Homer Township from start to finish and loved cutting the grass on his beloved tractor. He loved any game he could win at; specifically, horseshoes, euchre and softball, just to name a few. Jack also enjoyed gardening and coaching Little League with his boys. He was also a volunteer fireman with the Northwest Homer Fire Protection District.
The family would like to thank St. Croix Hospice, especially Dorothy and Helen, for their loving care of dad.
Visitation Friday December 26, 2025 from 3-7 P.M. at Petkus Funeral Home 12401 S. Archer Rd., Lemont. There will no morning viewing, as family and friends are asked to go directly to St. Alphonsus Church on Saturday December 27 for a 10 A.M. Funeral Mass, Interment St. Alphonsus Cemetery.
