Vito F. Valerio

Vito F. Valerio passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family at the
age 89 on September 19, 2021. Proud United States Army Veteran. He was the son of the late Vito J. and Anne (nee Horak) Valerio. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years, Shirley (nee Fara) Valerio and his beloved sister, Camille Zale.
Vito will be dearly missed by his three loving daughters; Laura (Dan) Tellor, Dawn (John) Dispensa III, and Tracey (Paul) Spotts. Vito was the cherished grandfather to Amber Dispensa (Dan) Watson, Jeremy Tellor, John Dispensa IV, and Matthew Tellor. He was the devoted great-grandfather to Isabella and Olivia Watson. He was the dear uncle to Kim (Martin) Ruggiero, Robyn (Bob) Benuska and the late Lance Fara.
He was a long-time resident of Westchester, Illinois and a member of Divine Providence Catholic Church. He graduated from Morton High School in 1949, and attended Morton Junior College. He served in the US Army as a Platoon Sergeant from 1952-1954 in Fort Riley, Kansas. Vito worked at US Gymsum in the R&D department and due to his ingenuity, was granted multiple patents. He then attended IBM’s computer school and was a pioneer in the field of technology. His career continued as a System Analyst for Allied Products.
Vito was a life-long Chicago White Sox fan and enjoyed taking family and friends to the games. He was a talented athlete excelling in 16” softball, basketball, and bowling. Vito was one of the best 16″ softball players in the area. He was a team leader on and off the field and was proud of winning numerous championship games and trophies. He loved to play poker and go to Maywood Park with his friends to watch the horse races.
Vito was loved by everyone he met. He was a charming, loving, generous, funny, and kind man. Every year, friends and family looked forward to his annual Christmas card, which featured a special poem he wrote.
The world is a better place because of Vito. His legacy will live on within all who knew him.
Family and friends are asked to gather for the visitation on Wednesday September 22, 2021 from 3-8 P.M. at Russo’s Hillside Chapels, 4500 Roosevelt Road, Hillside, Il 60162 (located between Mannheim and Wolf Rd.) Funeral to Follow: Thursday September 22 from Russo’s Hillside Chapels at 9 A.M. Proceeding to Divine Providence Church, Westchester. Mass of Christian Burial celebrated promptly at 10 A.M.
