Vasilios Hatseras of Darien, Illinois passed away on January 23, 2026. Born in 1935 in Palio Kostarazi, Kastoria, Greece. He came to the US in 1956 and stayed with his brother Michail in Detroit, Michigan. Working in a night club there with his brother, he fell in love with French Cuisine which he pursued as his career. In 1960, he settled in the Greater Chicago area, where he met his future wife Dionysia. They soon married and opened up a restaurant business. They had 2 children: Chris Hatseras and Angela(Mark)McGuire and 3 grandchildren: Michael, Dionysia, and Sister Eirene McGuire. Vasilios was a hardworking and dedicated man. Despite his many responsibilities, he always made time for his family, friends, and neighbors. He loved to help his fellow entrepreneurs in the restaurant business and also enjoyed tutoring others in his beloved mathematics. Everyone knew him wherever we went because he made a point of helping, loving and making them feel special. He was known not only for his integrity, kindness, and generosity, but also his sense of humor, pranks, and doing anything for a laugh. He was a big helper to his wife Dionysia and always shared in duties at home. He loved his children and grandchildren immensely and they loved him too.

He is survived, by his wife Dionysia Hatseras, his two siblings: Dimitrios(Evanthia)Hatseras, Efthihia(the late John)Gavros; 2 children: Chris Hatseras and Angela(Mark)McGuire; and 3 grandchildren: Michael McGuire, Dionysia McGuire, and Sister Eirene McGuire. Vasilios was preceded in death by his brother Michail(Vaitsa)Hatseras and his parents Christos and Angeliki Hatseras.

Visitation will be Tue Jan 27, 2026 from 10:00 am to 10:30 am at Holy Apostles Greek Orthodox church 2501 S Wolf Rd Westchester, Il 60154, with funeral service beginning at  10:30 am.  Private interment at St. Anthony’s Greek Orthodox Monastery 4784 N. St. Joseph’s Way Florence, AZ 85132
