Richard “Dick” Anderson

March 24, 2026
Richard “Dick” Anderson, a devoted father, mentor, proud veteran and a quiet servant to others has passed away peacefully on March 19th, 2026. He was 89 years old. He was surrounded by his loving family. We were blessed to be by his side.
Dick lived a life defined by humility, integrity, and generosity.  A man of few words but deep conviction, he believed in doing what was right—not for recognition, but because it was the right thing to do. His actions spoke volumes, and his impact was felt by many near and far. He dedicated more than three decades of his professional life to 3M, where he was respected for his strong work ethic and commitment. In addition to his civilian career, Dick proudly served his country in the United States military, rising to the rank of Colonel. His service reflected his deep sense of duty, leadership, and honor.
Dick’s generosity extended well beyond his professional and military life. He helped fund an orphanage in Belarus, offering hope and care to children in need. He was a devoted supporter of his local church and a longtime volunteer at the Chicago Botanic Garden, where he gave 15 years of service. He also spent many years volunteering with the Special Olympics, quietly supporting and uplifting others in ways that left lasting impressions. He also had a deep appreciation for nature, especially through his love of bonsai. He found peace and joy in the careful cultivation of these miniature trees, a reflection of his patience, attention to detail, and quiet strength. Despite his many accomplishments, Dick remained a humble man who never sought attention or praise. He  found joy in helping others and in being present for his family, whom he loved deeply .
His family is especially grateful that they were able to be his side. Dick is survived by his loving family, Krista Leary, Kevin Anderson, and Kara Lyn Anderson Gray. We would like to thank everyone for the unbelievable support and love from family and friends at this time.
Memorial Services will be held at the First Christian Church of Downers Grove at a date to be determined. Arrangements entrusted to Cappetta’s West Suburban Funeral Home, Downers Grove. Info 630-852-8000 or westsuburbanfh.com
