Clyde “Jack” Simmons

Jack Simmons, 80, of Oswego, left this planet on Thursday November 22, 2018 while at home.  In lieu of traditional services, an open house and last visitation was held for family and close friends the Saturday prior to his death. A Memorial will be held at a later date. Known as Jack his entire life, Clyde was born in Sterling, IL to Clyde and Margaret Simmons on May 15, 1938. He attended Plano High School in Plano, IL and later earned his Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy and Elementary Education from Aurora University in Aurora, IL. He married Dorothy (nee Harbison) Simmons on December 16, 1961 in Aurora, IL.  Jack was a fifth grade teacher at Coal City Elementary School for two years before working at East View Elementary School in Oswego, IL, where he eventually retired after 27 years as fifth grade teacher. He lived his life as an educator, audiophile and self-acclaimed pundit. He thoroughly enjoyed his grandchildren and his family.  Jack is preceded in death by his father, Clyde Simmons and his mother Margaret Simmons, both of Medford, Oregon. Jack is survived by his wife, Dorothy, son Bruce (Cheryl nee Brown) Simmons; granddaughter Chynna (Mike) Buda; grandson Phoenix Simmons; brother Sid (Carol) Simmons; and sister India Simmons.
