Arthur “Artie” Dritlein
Arthur “Artie” Dritlein, 101, of Downers Grove, passed away on Sunday, November 30, 2025. Born May 1, 1924, he was the loving husband of Dorothy (nee Wheeler) for 70 years and beloved father of Keith (Cheryl) Dritlein, Debbie Brazzale, Perry (Linda) Dritlein, and Craig Dritlein. He was the proud grandfather of Nicole, Ryan, Rebecca, Patrick, Kurt, and Ashley, and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Anna, siblings Edward, Florence, and Esther, son-in-law Brien, and is survived by loving nieces and nephews.
Art grew up on Chicago’s north side, the youngest of four. Showing a natural talent for music, he learned the piano and performed with various Lane Tech High School groups. Following high school, he pursued his professional musical career known across Chicagoland as “Artie Lyne”. Where he entertained audiences for over 40 years.
Art served in the Amy during WWII. He served overseas in the Philippines as the Chaplain’s Assistant, playing piano for church services and assisting the Chaplain visiting injured soldiers in the hospital. After the war he met Dorothy while playing at the Forest Lounge in Blue Island, and they married in January 1955.
Art & Dorothy soon after settled in Downers Grove to raise their family. They all enjoyed camping and boating, which led them to purchase a cottage on the Chain of Lakes, creating decades of memories with family and friends. Art retired in 1986, freeing up his time to travel the country while still sharing his musical talents at senior communities. Known for saying “age is just a number,” Art remained active well into his 90s.
Art loved children and dogs and appreciated a Vodka martini and a good cigar. Everyone knew him as the life of the party. He lived a full and joyful life and will be deeply missed.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, December 14th, 2025 at Cappetta’s West Suburban Funeral Home, 4920 Main St. Downers Grove, IL 60515 from 3:00pm to 7:00pm. Chapel services to commence at 6:30pm. Funeral interment services will be held privately on Monday, December 15th, 2025 at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.
