Armido Vasari, 87, of Downers Grove, passed away Thursday, November 13, 2025. Armido was the loving and cherished husband to Irma Vasari for 68 years. He was the devoted father of Louisa (Bill) Sassi, Laura (Steve) Reitsma, and Doriana Vasari. He was a proud and adored Nonno to Cristina (Jay) Prince, Frank (Michelle) Sassi, Joe Reitsma, Gina Reitsma, and Francesca Contento, and a cherished great-grandfather “Nonno Armido” to Maddox Prince and Harleigh Prince.
Armido was the dear brother of Fausta Vasari of Trieste, Italy, and a fond uncle to many.
Born in Italy, Armido came to America in 1958 after marrying Irma, where together they began their life. A talented carpenter, contractor, and master craftsman, he could build anything – from homes to tall ship models – entirely from scratch (one of which is proudly displayed at The Museum of Science & Industry). His skill was matched only by his work ethic.
Though he carried a tough exterior, Armido had a gentle heart. He cared deeply for others and helped many people along the way, never expecting anything in return. He was the traditional lasagna cutter and server at family gatherings, and Saturday nights were often spent with Armido and Irma making pizza for the entire family – a ritual filled with warmth, laughter and love.
He leaves behind a legacy of dedication, craftsmanship, family traditions, and a lifetime of generosity.
