Anthony “Spike” Van Moffaert

It is with great sadness that on Sunday, April 13, 2025, Anthony Camiel Johnathan (Spike) Van Moffaert of Downers Grove, Illinois passed away at the age of 93, surrounded by his family. He was born in Chicago, Illinois on February 8, 1932, to Mary Votruba and Constant Van Moffaert. Throughout his life, Spike adhered to Christian values.

Spike married his high school sweetheart, Lorraine Bonistalli, on September 13, 1952. Up until her death, they had a wonderful 64-year marriage begetting two wonderful sons, Gary Anthony and Glenn James. Spike was predeceased by his second wife, Dorothy Kroll, also a high school girlfriend.  He often said, “I am a very lucky man – two wonderful loving women in my life and Jesus Christ in my corner”.

Spike is survived by his sons Gary Van Moffaert and Carol of Janesville, WI; Jack Anthony Van Moffaert and Sarah of Cary, IL; Glenn William Van Moffaert and Rachel of Stamford, CT; Lauren Mary (Van Moffaert) Rusy and Anton of Maple Park, IL; David Joseph Van Moffaert and Marisa of Washington, NJ; three great-grandsons, Owen Anthony Van Moffaert, Cade Robert Van Moffaert, and Hugh William Van Moffaert, his “Three Little Musketeers”; his sister, Colette Siegler and Donald of Hickory Corners, Michigan; as well as two nieces, many nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Anthony worked diligently from age 15 until retiring at 67. He studied mechanical engineering and structural design, earning certificates from Illinois Institute of Technology. In his lifetime of career achievements, he was a Vice President at Amurol Products (a subsidiary of Wm. Wrigley Jr Co.), and retired as Manager of Equipment Purchases at Topco, (a major provider of products and services to the grocery industry). He often helped others start their careers, paying forward kindnesses he had received.

Spike was an upbeat person, proud parent, extremely proud grandfather and great-grandfather he will be deeply missed but forever loved and cherished by so many….

A funeral visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 22, 2024, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 4801 Main St., Downers Grove, IL 60515, from 9:00am to 10:00am with a funeral mass commencing at 10:00am. Following funeral mass, a procession to Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside, IL for an entombment. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Cappetta’s West Suburban Funeral Home, 4920 Main St., Downers Grove, IL 60515.
