Grace M. Puls (nee Foss) formerly of Clarendon Hills, passed away January 19, 2023. She was 95.

Born in Chicago and a graduate of Carl Schurz High School, Grace was the first in her family to attend college. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Beloit College in 1949 and worked in microbiology in both hospital and corporate settings. Grace married Roy W. Puls, also of Chicago, in 1955 and resided in Cedar Rapids, IA where Steven and Carolyn were born. After moving to Clarendon Hills in 1960, Cathy was born. While raising their family, Grace was active in her church teaching Sunday school, and serving the church library. In 1970, Grace joined Suburban Library Systems and helped to transition the library system to an online catalog database. She retired in 1990.

Grace remained dedicated to Grace Lutheran Church of LaGrange for nearly 50 years heading the church library; active in women’s ministry, Bible studies and service work. An avid reader and patron of the arts, Grace traveled extensively and enjoyed time spent with her grandchildren. She will always be remembered by her family as a loving wife, mother and grandmother; faithful Christian; and friend to many.

She is survived by her daughters, Carolyn Puls Leyes and Cathy Puls Toomey; and sister Lorraine Worley. Grace’s eight grandchildren include: Sarah Puls and Ryan Puls; Rachel Leyes Larkin, Mary Leyes Neidert and Drew Leyes; Patrick Toomey, Laura Toomey Huie and Eileen Toomey. Her five great-grandchildren include: Louis Larkin, Calvin Larkin, Jack Neidert, Drew Neidert and Ava Grace Huie.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Roy W. Puls (1983) and her son, Steven J. Puls (1987).

A celebration of life service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, May 6th at Grace Lutheran Church of LaGrange, IL. Internment was private.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to any charitable organization of your choosing.
