Nancy E. Doran (nee Brummel), 82, of Westmont, at rest July 7, 2024. Beloved wife of Thomas E. Doran, Jr.; loving mother of Laura (Michael) Gaughan, Linda Doran, Carol (Bret) Anno, and Julie Ann Marie Doran; devoted grandmother of Andrew and Michael Gaughan, Matthew and Johnathan Anno; dearest sister of Joan Wiczek, David Brummel and the late Mary Lou Brummel, Sr. Margie Brummel I.B.V.M. and Joyce Reising; fond aunt of nieces and nephews and their children.
Nancy was devoted to her family and community. She lived 60 years with Type 1 Diabetes, striving daily to balance her body’s needs with those of her family. Through daily diligence, she achieved milestones which astonished her medical providers. She was known for her kindness, compassion, and her radiant smile. She began training as a nurse, achieving her LPN certification, but soon transitioned to full time Mother; caring for her own children, and those of neighbors and friends, and eventually for her grandsons. She was deeply involved with the parish and school at Holy Trinity, serving with the CCW, MAs, and actively participating in parish life. She worked for many years in Dietary Services at Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital. Upon retirement, she enjoyed working in her yard, but loved nothing more than having her family around her.

Nancy was one of the kindest women I ever knew, along with my mother Barbara. My family growing up used to travel often to tape conferences with Tom, and often met the family. Tom taught me so many things about life, and his gruff but kind style was so inspirational – I attribute a lot of my work ethic to Tom & Dad and those conferences. I remember meeting Nancy several times, and she was so kind, despite having to deal with sickness almost her entire life. When my mother passed away, Tom and Nancy were there for my dad, and for the family, in ways we can never repay. She was also such a good mother, and her kids were unfailingly nice as well. I’m sadly on the other side of the planet, so I can’t make it to the services, but Tom and family: my deepest condolences. If there’s anything I can do to help, please let me know. And Nancy, I hope you find the peace you always gave the rest of us.
