Mary Ellen Noonan (nee Spain), age 82, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2024, at St. Patrick’s Residence in Naperville. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Walter, parents Joseph and Cappy Spain, sister Patricia Mahoney (Red) and brother Joseph Spain Jr. (Barbara). Loving Mother to Daniel Noonan (Julie), Colleen Ivancic (Mark) and Michael Noonan (Jill). Loving Grandmother to Matthew Ivancic, Maggie Lichtenstein (Tim), Bridget Heard (Cole), Chelle Ivancic, Kevin Noonan, Karen Seiboldt (Christopher), Kelly Noonan, Elise Noonan, Grace Noonan, Dominic Noonan and Jack Noonan. Aunt, cousin and friend to many. Mary Ellen was a woman of many talents, especially in the arts. She was an accomplished actor and painter. Mary Ellen was President of the St. Thomas Aquinas High School Class of 1957. She spearheaded the construction of Veterans Park and served on the Police Commission Board in Orland Park for many years. Visitation will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, immediately followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church 820 Division St., Lisle, Illinois. Interment private In lieu of flowers, the Family respectfully requests that donations be made to St. Patrick’s Residence 1400 Brookdale Rd. Naperville, IL 60563. I am so happy that Mary Ellen is now in heaven, even tho she will be greatly missed on earth. Not only was Mary Ellen my sister-in-law, but she was a true friend. She was always there when I needed her, and I did many times. Whether it was talking to me on the telephone, late at night, after visiting Joe in the hospital or even grocery shopping when we were both disabled. She came to my hospital room in the middle of the night to be with Joe when I was facing very risky emergency surgery and even came with me to a doctor’s office so I would have a second pair of ears. She always knew what to say to put me at ease. These are only a few things that come to mind. Rest easy dear friend, you have made it!❤️
I was Mary Ellen’s classmate at Aquinas Dominican High School from 1955-59 where she was our Class President. Her leadership skills and her great sense of humor made her THE BEST person for that responsibility. A comsumate volunteer, she was involved in everything! – to the benefit of hee classmates as well as the school.
Our friendship went beyond high school. We ‘double dated’ – and one double date was most memorable as it was to our Father Daughter Dance at Aquinas.
Soon later, I was.included in a Spain family summer vacation in lIndiana. I remember carnivals, laughter, sunburns and great family meals.
